THE TOWERS FAMILY SAGA
EPISODE 33
The jury deliberation took
less than four hours. In
the hallway of the court,
the Towers family stood in
a small, tight circle. No
one spoke. The silence was
no longer uncomfortable; it
was shared. When the bailiff
called them back in, the
air in the courtroom felt
thick and charged. Robert
stood as the foreperson
rose. "On the count of
criminal negligence, we
find the defendant, Robert
Towers, guilty." The word
didn't hit Robert like a
blow; it hit him like a
key turning in a lock. He
closed his eyes and took a
deep, steady breath. The
judge, a man who had known
the Towers name for his
entire career, looked down
from the bench. "Robert
Towers, you have used your
influence to shield your
legacy at the expense of
the land and its people. I
sentence you to five years
in federal custody."
Virginia grabbed the back
of the wooden bench to
steady herself. Five years.
It was a lifetime in their
current world, but it was
the exact price the truth
had demanded. Robert
turned to look at his
children. Tyler was
nodding slowly, his jaw
set. Barbara was crying,
but she wasn't hiding her
face. They were seeing
him for who he was?not a
titan, but a man taking
his medicine. As the
marshals approached to
lead him away, Robert
reached out and touched
Virginia?s hand one last
time. "Keep the condo,
Virginia," he whispered.
"And keep the cat. I?ll
be home before the oaks
grow another foot." He
didn't look back as they
led him through the small
door behind the bench. The
Towers name was officially
tarnished in the eyes of
the law, but for the
first time in history, the
Towers family was whole.
